Lawton Farm Recreation Area is a 3.7 kilometer lightly trafficked loop trail located near Hope, Rhode Island that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching.
I love this hike. Plenty of Wildlife to see. It is peaceful
Overgrown a bit in the woods. Weird navigating around the farm with a tractor clearing the area. Went past the sign but I wouldn’t suggest it. No markings for the trails but can tell where the trail is.
I had been putting off Lawton Farm because “on paper” it looked kind of boring compared to other places. I ended up loving it! It’s a conservation area that was created when the Lawton family donated their farm to the town in 1990. Mostly open field, with a little dip in the woods. You have to stay on the mowed path to protect birds and other wildlife. Beautiful place to walk on such a sunny morning.
The surroundings are nice, but don't expect a standard trail. At the trail head there is a text description of the trail but the trail has no signage or blazes. We didn't get lost, but some more direction would have been appreciated.
This place is amazing BUT my dog was loaded up with deer ticks when we left :( I pulled >20 deer ticks off of him so far and I’m pretty sure there will be more. We used the trail in the woods - if you have a dog, I really recommend avoiding the wooded area and being careful no matter where you go here.
A portion of the return path has not been used much lately, making it difficult to stay on track. Other yhan this, trail is easy to follow.
Nice small set of trails for a quick hike...very good with the dog.
Dogs not allowed April-August. Didn’t actually hike it, cause I had my pooch with me and didn’t know.
Doubled back in the upper field-not sure but there may be poison ivy.
This trail is awesome. There’s so many different loops and options you can take. Don’t just walk around the large field by the road. There’s 3 or 4 different loops in the back you can take. I don’t recommend bringing dogs though. We took our pup, stayed in the center of the trails, and didn’t let her into the tall grass. 3 days and 2 tick baths later, we’re still pulling ticks off of her. At least 30 ticks and we only walked for about 30 minutes. We wear long pants and shirts and use bug spray. Never had a tick on us.
Easy walk on the edges of pastures. Trail can be extended when drier. Good bird and butterfly habitat.
Lots of good edges for birding and butterflies. Plenty of muddy areas so boots are a must. Unablle to access the lower loop along the brook due to water level.
Good hike for most of trail down to the south. But the larger trail around the big field is swampy and muddy. Must wear hiking boots.
Lawton farm recreation area, Scituate Rhode Island. Nice easy hike, with meadows and woodlands.
