Emory Peak Trail is a 16.7 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Big Bend National Park, Texas that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Tough climb but worth it for the views! Loved the trail!
Bring lots of water. Three liters per person on a cold day was barely enough.
Starts with a steady incline with good views over the basin then quite steep with steps once you get to the switchbacks. The bear boxes make for a good snack break. The final part is very gradual until the final half mile and the summits are almost undoable. The right is the true summit but we went left and were comfortable with our decision. It took us three hours up and 2.5 hours down. The views were incredible.
Beautiful. Did a sunrise hike (we left camp at 3AM) and the view was worth it. My legs were killing me.
Great trail, nice weather. It’s hard to reach the peak on your right, but the left one is doable. What’s more important, the left one is the real peak!
Great day. Started at 9:15 which was a good time. While you gain a bit of elevation, it’s over the full trail so it isn’t killer. I recommend bringing poles to help on the way down. I didn’t and regretted it. The last bit of ‘climbing’ to get to the summit is a little ‘scary’ with the drop offs, but worth it for the views!
Fantastic hike. Great views throughout. Last mile is rocky and the scramble to the top is “interesting”. As East Coast hikers, we really enjoyed the views.
Nice day with excellent visibility. Pinaccles trail + last part to Emory peak is hard so you need to be in good shape. It took me about 2.25hrs up & 1.5hrs down excl stops. Great views . A great hike
Absolutely stunning view once you are up there. You have a concept of the entire canyon from up top. Truly amazing. Fun trail to hike with the incline being very spread out throughout the hike.
This trail definitely got my heart going in more ways than one! The hike is a steady up, but nothing too crazy. The last bit is more like a climb than a scramble, I get a little nervous with heights so this one challenged me a bit! But definitively well worth it!
Definitely a difficult trail but so worthwhile in the end!
very nice But 2 tons of rocks Not easy to go fast
Kind of boring with the switch backs and rocks but great views and a great workout.
The climb at the very peak felt climactic. Definitely a unique experience and view.
One of the most beautiful trails I’ve been on, I say that a lot but it’s true everytime. Definitely coming back to backpack in the future. Really cool scramble at the top
Big commitment with average views. It’s a climb at the very end to the peak and not a scramble. I opted not to go all the way up and my 6’5” boyfriend even felt a little sketch. Just be careful and use your own judgment! Saw some white tail deer along the trail which was cool. Also bring hat and water for the last 1.5 miles there’s very little shade.
Mellow staircase up to the last 30’, which is class III. Beautiful views all the way up and especially at the top.
Loved this hike. The scramble at the very end isn’t king but is pretty crazy and some hikers near us opted not to give it a try. We did and were glad we did. We had the whole peak to ourselves and my boyfriend surprised me by proposing to me up top.
Great hike took us 6 hours would rate it moderate until the last mile. Top section was pretty rocky, would recommend wearing hiking boots.
Gorgeous day for Emory Peak! Trail is not bad until the scrambling at the top, which was doable even for my 64 year old mother (with assistance). 360 views from the top are incredible!!
Really peaceful relaxing by trail with views the entire way up! I’d rate this more as moderate until you get to the scramble to the top which looks worse than it is. No steep sections. Parts were very rocky. Took me 6 hours with a few breaks.
Super fun. Not a ton of people. Took my 8, 9 and 11 year olds and they did great.
Went from CO1 off Colima Trail 1.2 miles to Emory Peak Trail then 1.5 miles to the summit. Very nice trail with amazing views.
