Description

Algonac State Park is home to rare habitats such as the lake plain prairies and oak savannas that provide places to view a variety of plants, wildlife, and butterflies. Although the hiking network within this park is small, there are a couple of short trails for visitors to enjoy. The park is also home to a shooting range allowing archery, hand trap and rifle/handguns. The Bay to Bridge Trail, which travels from New Baltimore to Lakeport State Park, runs through Algonac State Park and is a fantastic path for biking, walking, or jogging! Anglers will also find great fishing opportunities along the St. Clair River.

The parking lot for the trail head is all the way in the back of the park that includes a vault toilet. The trail is wide, flat, and marked well with ruts in a few areas. The woods surrounding the trail is dense in some areas with mature oak stands in others. The actual trail is a point to point route that can be connected by taking the park road .3 mile back to the trail head. The best time to hike this trail in the early morning during the week to avoid the noise from the range nearby.Show more
